Château de Divonne - History of the Château
The Château de Divonne for next to nothing
René Traversac, the founder of the Grandes Etapes Françaises, had already acquired 6 châteaux or fine houses and restored and transformed them into hotels with charm when the town council of Divonne, close to Geneva, offered him the opportunity of purchasing the goodwill of the château-hotel (the property of the Comte François-Paul de la Forest-Divonne) for next to nothing...
This was worth a thought and a visit, which soon made up his mind.
The goodwill was thus purchased from the town council on 29 March 1984 and rent was then paid to the Comte.
René Traversac immediately understood that an excellent restaurant was the only thing that would attract neighbouring residents in Geneva to Divonne, so he entrusted the cuisine and even the management of the entire establishment to a young, promising chef, Guy Martin, the future chef of the famous Grand Véfour restaurant in Paris.
